Protesters for and against the ruling Phue Thai party demonstrated this Friday outside the Thai Parliament where the new prime minister of the country will be voted on.
Thailand’s House of Representatives votes this Friday to elect a new prime minister, with conservative Anutin Charnvirakul, who is a former Interior and Health Minister, as the favorite to replace Paetongtarn Shinawatra, removed by the Constitutional Court due to criticism of the Army.
The parliamentary session began after 9:00 local time (2:00 GMT) and it is expected that the Bhumjaithai formation, led by Anutin, will present a motion of vote to fill the vacancy left by Paetongtarn – daughter of the influential former president Thaksin Shinawatra -, until now covered on an interim basis by Phumtham Wechayachai.
