In Indonesia’s Toraja region, a woman keeps her deceased mother’s body at home using special preservatives and takes her into the garden every day to comb her hair.

The Toraja people do not immediately bury their loved ones after death. The deceased is considered “sick” or “sleeping,” and their bodies may be kept at home as part of traditional mourning practices.
