Zelensky says he is ready to meet with Putin after his latest meeting with Trump

Berlin (EFE).- The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that he is ready to meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to discuss peace in the Russian-Ukrainian war after the last meeting of the leader of the country invaded by Russia with the US Head of State, Donald Trump.

“How to find us, in what format, we don’t care. We are ready,” Zelensky said in statements reported by the ‘Ukrinform’ agency this Monday, after the three-hour meeting with Trump that the Ukrainian president held on Sunday at the Mar-a-Lago residence (Florida). Zelensky also indicated, however, that Moscow must be consistent in what its president says and does, given that Russia is maintaining its attacks against Ukraine. “It is important that the actions and words of the Russian leader coincide,” commented Zelensky, who said that it seemed to him “a little strange” that Putin told Trump that he “wants to end the war,” but, on the other hand, “openly communicates in the media, in all his messages, that he is prepared and wants to continue the war.” «He attacks us with missiles, speaks openly about it, rejoices in the results of the destruction of civilian infrastructure, gives orders to his generals about where to go, what to capture, etcetera», added Zelensky.

Zelensky’s Meeting with Trump

The Ukrainian president made these statements after his Sunday meeting with Trump, where both projected a message of progress towards peace, although they did not close a deal nor did they resolve outstanding “thorny issues”.

The meeting came after a call between Trump and Putin, and after several meetings between Zelensky and Trump administration officials. Zelensky and Trump announced that both Russia and Ukraine agreed to create “working groups” composed of the main collaborators of the American president to finalize a peace agreement on the conflict in Ukraine “in the coming weeks”.

Trump offered him security guarantees for 15 years

Zelensky said that Trump had offered him security guarantees for 15 years and that he would like these to cover a longer time.

“I told him we should consider the possibility of guarantees for 30, 40 or 50 years. That would be a historic decision by President Trump,” he added.

Zelensky considers that the war with Russia began in 2014, with the illegal annexation of Crimea, and not in 2022, the year the large-scale invasion began. The Ukrainian president also emphasized that without security guarantees, the war cannot be considered over.
