Santo Domingo.– Not even the rain that fell over Greater Santo Domingo could stop the “Gazelle of Nizao.” Marileidy Paulino once again demonstrated her dominance on the track by winning the gold medal in the women’s 400-meter dash at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games this Wednesday.
Paulino takes the gold in the women’s 400-meter dash with a time of 48.94, a new Central American and Caribbean record.

Under intense rain and with the Dominican public hanging on every stride, Paulino set out determined to set her pace and crossed the finish line in 49.95 seconds, to climb to the top of the podium and give the Dominican Republic another celebration at home.
The Olympic champion faced the adverse conditions without lowering the intensity and, with her characteristic power in the final meters, made it clear once again why she is one of the great figures of world athletics. Her performance also reaffirms the dominance she has maintained in this event over the last few years.
The stands, many of them occupied by fans protected with umbrellas, witnessed a special race: the rain fell over Santo Domingo, but it did not dampen the party nor stop Marileidy.
With this triumph, Paulino once again places the Dominican flag at the very top and adds another golden chapter to a career that already includes the Paris 2024 Olympic gold and multiple international titles.
