Águilas Cibaeñas strengthen their infield with the signing of American Corey Joyce

SANTIAGO. – In their quest to maintain dominance during the 2025-2026 season of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), the Águilas Cibaeñas announced this Wednesday the signing of American infielder Corey Joyce, a strategic move aimed at strengthening the team’s depth heading into the final stretch of the regular season.

The Cibao team currently leads the tournament with a solid record of “23-8”, and continues to make timely adjustments to secure its classification and arrive in optimal conditions to the postseason. The general manager, Gian Guzmán, confirmed that Joyce will arrive in the country this Wednesday and highlighted the competitive profile of the reinforcement.

“We are focused on maintaining a highly competitive team. Each piece we add, like Corey, is a firm step in that direction. We seek versatility in the infield and players with a hunger to win, and Joyce fits perfectly into our philosophy,” Guzmán expressed.

A versatile and experienced player

Joyce, 26, bats and throws right-handed, and is distinguished by his ability to cover multiple positions on the field, including shortstop, second and third base. Selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 12th round of the 2019 Draft, the player has accumulated six seasons of experience in the Minor Leagues. In the past summer campaign, he played with the Knoxville Smokies, Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, where he played in 92 games and recorded a batting average of .272 (88 hits in 323 at-bats). In the modern era of NCCU, he holds the institution’s best records in batting average (.348) and slugging (.527).
