NEW YORK – The Cleveland Guardians got off to a strong start at Yankee Stadium and didn’t look back. Dominican Ángel Martínez hit a two-run home run in the first inning, while his compatriot Luis Ortiz pitched a solid five and two-thirds innings, to lead the visiting team to a 4-0 victory over the New York Yankees, this Wednesday, June 4th.

The Guardians scored three times in the first inning and added a solo home run by Kyle Manzardo in the eighth to secure the win. With this victory, Cleveland snaps a losing streak and adds only its third win in its last 11 regular season games in the Bronx.

Luis Ortiz (3-6) looked dominant on the mound, allowing only three hits, no runs, with seven strikeouts and a great ability to escape against New York’s dangerous bats. This is his first victory since April 18th.

Martínez hit a home run off the seventh pitch from starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt, who allowed three runs in that initial inning. The also Dominican José Ramírez hit a double in that same inning, extending his on-base streak to 30 consecutive games. He scored shortly after thanks to a run-scoring double by Daniel Schneeman.

The Guardians’ defense also played a crucial role, completing three double plays that stifled the Yankees’ few offensive threats.
