Milwaukee places Jackson Chourio on injured list with hand fracture
MILWAUKEE, USA — The Milwaukee Brewers began the 2026 season with a significant setback after placing Venezuelan outfielder Jackson Chourio on the 10-day injured list due to a fracture in his left hand.
The measure, announced on the eve of Opening Day, is retroactive to Wednesday and will sideline the young star for an estimated period of between two and four weeks.
The injury originated on March 4th, when Chourio was hit by a pitch during an exhibition game with the Venezuelan national team, prior to the World Baseball Classic. Although the player returned to action later, persistent discomfort led the medical staff to perform an MRI that confirmed a small fracture at the base of the middle finger.
Leader Pat Murphy lamented the situation, highlighting that the player was excited about the start of the campaign. Likewise, he explained that the organization opted for caution to avoid a more serious injury while the recovery process continues.
To cover his absence on the roster, the Brewers promoted outfielder Blake Perkins from Triple-A.
At 22 years old, Chourio is one of the main emerging figures in Major League Baseball. He signed a historic eight-year, $82 million contract in 2023 without having debuted in MLB, and has quickly responded with his performance on the field.
The Venezuelan made history by becoming the youngest player to achieve a 20-20 season as a rookie in 2024, and in 2025 he repeated the feat, establishing himself as one of the most promising talents in current baseball.
