Santo Domingo. – Dominican Oneil Cruz once again showed his power with the bat by hitting his nineteenth home run of the season, a key piece in the Pittsburgh Pirates‘ 10-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox this Saturday in Major League Baseball.
The Creole shortstop contributed a run batted in and a run scored on a night where the Pirates’ offense was overwhelming, producing eight combined runs in the fifth and sixth innings. In total, the nine starting batters hit, with Jared Triolo and Spencer Horwitz standing out with five runs scored between them, while Bryan Reynolds and Nick Gonzales added two-run doubles.
On the mound, Johan Oviedo (PIT) took the win with five solid innings, in which he allowed only two runs (one earned), with three hits and six strikeouts. For Boston, the only big hit came courtesy of Carlos Narváez, who hit a solo home run.
For the Pirates, Oneil Cruz went 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored; Yohan Ramírez pitched a scoreless inning. Meanwhile, there was no Dominican participation in the Boston lineup.
Brewers Prevail Over Toronto with Abner Uribe’s Save
In another game of the day, the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays with a score of 4-1, thus securing the series as visitors.
The opener Quinn Priester shined for Milwaukee by working six quality innings, in which he allowed just one unearned run, with five hits, no walks and three strikeouts. His rival, Kevin Gausman (TOR), also had an outstanding outing with seven innings of work, eight strikeouts and only one earned run, although he left without a decision.
The outcome came in the ninth inning: Jackson Chourio, recently recovered from an injury, hit an opposite-field home run that broke the tie, followed by another home run by Christian Yelich. Then, Isaac Collins sealed the victory with a run-scoring double.
Dominican Abner Uribe closed the game and earned his fourth save of the year, pitching the ninth inning with only one hit allowed and one strikeout.
For the Blue Jays, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 0-3 with an RBI, while fellow Dominican Seranthony Domínguez pitched one inning, allowing two hits.
