SANTO DOMINGO, RD. – Major League Baseball commissioner, Rob Manfred, made an appearance this Tuesday at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium to witness the exhibition game between the Dominican Republic national team and the Detroit Tigers.

During his visit, the chief executive of
Major League Baseball highlighted the enthusiasm of the Dominican public and reiterated MLB’s interest in continuing to strengthen its presence in the country.
Manfred revealed that, if it had a modern stadium with the conditions required by the league, there would be greater ease for the Dominican Republic to host official regular season games, as well as
World Baseball Classic matches in future editions.
“Baseball is an essential part of Dominican culture. If the appropriate infrastructure conditions are met, it would be more viable to bring official MLB events,” expressed the commissioner.
Likewise, Manfred praised the support provided by the President of the Republic,
Luis Abinader, in terms of development and support for baseball.
“We can’t ask more of the president, he has supported us in everything we have requested,” he affirmed.
The commissioner also reported that the initiative to hold this exhibition series on Dominican soil arose from a proposal by former player and current executive
Nelson Cruz, who has been a key driver in strengthening ties between MLB and the Dominican Republic.
The presence of Manfred in Quisqueya reaffirms the country’s importance on the international baseball stage and opens the door to future opportunities for local fans to enjoy official Major League events at home. Source: William Aish.
