SANTO DOMINGO.– The Dominican Republic men’s national basketball team secured its qualification for the final of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, after defeating Mexico 78-65 in the semifinal round.

The Dominican team dominated the encounter for most of the match and won three of the four quarters with scores of 16-13, 19-10, and 24-18. Mexico was only able to prevail in the final quarter, 24-19.
Cristopher Maldonado led the Dominican offense with 21 points and seven rebounds. Eugri Alemán contributed 16 points and recovered six balls, while Marlon Martínez added 10 points and grabbed three rebounds.
For the Mexican national team, Alejandro Muñoz recorded 18 points and 12 rebounds. Ronnie Zelleaza finished with 13 units, eight rebounds, and four assists, while Julián Gómez and Santiago Garza contributed 10 points each.
With this victory, the Dominican Republic will compete for the gold medal in the men’s basketball tournament at Santo Domingo 2026, seeking to be crowned champion in front of its home crowd.
