Fedombal sets course with a wide pre-selection of 24 players for the first World Cup window

SANTO DOMINGO,.- The Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal) announced this Friday the list of 24 players who make up the men’s national pre-selection for the First Qualifying Window towards the 2027 Basketball World Cup in Qatar.

From this group will come those called to official training sessions and subsequently the 12 players who will represent the country in international commitments. The Dominican selection will be under the direction of Argentine coach Néstor “Ché” García, accompanied by assistants David Díaz, Abraham Disla and also Argentine Sergio Jiménez. The announcement was made by the team’s general manager, Junior Páez (Jipy), vice president of Fedombal, who was accompanied by Carlos De León, Director of Operations; the physical trainer Adenhaweer Díaz (Rilling); and the doctor Gewill Acosta, team doctor.

The Called

The list is headed by figures with an important international trajectory, such as Andrés Feliz, Jean Montero, Jassel Pérez, NBA player Chris Duarte, Ángel Luis Delgado and captain Víctor Liz. They were also called: LJ Figueroa, Luis David Montero, Ángel Núñez, Juan Guerrero, Joel Soriano, Rigoberto Mendoza, Richard Bautista, Gelvis Solano, as well as Jonathan Araújo, Omar Silverio, Justin Minaya, Luis Santos, Anderson García, Jhery Matos, Eloy Vargas, Juan Miguel Suero, Eddy Polanco and Rey Abad. Dominican Republic, which already has four World Cup appearances (1978, 2014, 2019 and 2023), seeks to reach its fourth consecutive and fifth overall appearance.

First Window Calendar

The tricolor team will face Mexico on Friday the 28th of this month, at the Marcelino González Gymnasium in Zacatecas, at 8:40 p.m. (10:40 p.m. Dominican time). The second commitment will be on Monday, December 1st, when they will play as locals in the Ricardo Gioriber Arias Volleyball Palace, of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. The Quisqueyan team is in Group A, along with United States, Mexico, and Nicaragua, in a qualifying process that awards seven spots for the 2027 World Cup. The match against the United States is scheduled for the Third Window, on July 3, 2026, at the renovated Virgilio Travieso Soto Sports Palace.
