NEW YORK. – The NBA announced this Tuesday a $50,000 fine for Slovenian Luka Dončić for making a gesture considered inappropriate towards a referee during a recent game.

According to the league, the Los Angeles Lakers point guard was sanctioned for making a money gesture with both hands directed at the referees, an action that the NBA described as “unprofessional and inappropriate”.
The incident occurred during last weekend’s game between the Lakers and the New York Knicks, after a play in which Dončić fell to the ground following contact with New York player Mohamed Diawara.
The action occurred during a Knicks counterattack in the third quarter, which began after a turnover by Dončić himself. In his attempt to regain possession, the Slovenian ended up being knocked down and claimed an offensive foul that was not called by the referees.
Visibly annoyed by the decision, the player stood up and made the gesture that subsequently led to the financial penalty.
The moment occurred with 4:35 remaining in the third period of the game played at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Despite the incident, the Lakers ended up winning with a score of 110-97, in a match in which Dončić once again was one of the main offensive figures of the team.
The Slovenian point guard is having an outstanding season in the league, averaging 32.5 points per game, establishing himself as one of the main stars of the Los Angeles team and one of the most influential figures of the current campaign.
