HOUSTON, USA (EFE). The Morocco national team confirmed its great form in the 2026 FIFA World Cup by decisively defeating Canada 3-0 this Saturday at NRG Stadium in Houston, a result that secured its place in the tournament’s quarterfinals.

The great protagonist of the match was Azzedine Ounahi, author of a brace with goals in the 50th and 82nd minutes, while Soufiane Rahimi sealed the match with the third goal in stoppage time.
After a goalless first half, the team led by Mohamed Ouahbi showed their superiority in the second half and found their reward with Ounahi’s first goal. The midfielder extended the lead with eight minutes remaining and Rahimi set the final score in stoppage time.
With the victory, Morocco became the first team to qualify for the quarterfinals and now awaits the winner of the duel between France and Paraguay.
However, the qualification left a worrying note for the Africans. The attacker Ismael Saibari left the pitch after 22 minutes due to a muscle injury in the back of his right thigh, a situation that casts doubt on his continuation in the championship.
At the end of the match, Ounahi highlighted the team’s collective effort.
“I am proud of the whole team. It’s not just because I scored two goals. We all want the same thing and have the same goal. I am proud of this generation and this group,” expressed the Moroccan midfielder.
For his part, Brahim Díaz praised the team’s attitude during the match.
