They are going for more! Dominican youths who achieved Guinness World Records want to reach 500 hours of continuous reading

Santo Domingo.- The five young people Maikol Arias, Mayury Sánchez, Abril del Rosario Jiménez, Franchesca Suárez, and Ismael Durán de la Rosa have already made history by reaching 430 hours of continuous group reading this Friday, giving the Dominican Republic the Guinness World Record, a mark that was previously held by Nigeria.

However, the guys are set to take their feat to another level.

Authorities from the Ministry of Youth, the event organizer, reported that the young people are preparing to advance toward the goal of 500 hours that they have set out to reach in this international challenge.

Since last August 31st, young people from different provinces of the country have been maintaining this challenge uninterruptedly, which combines reading, youth, and civic participation through a continuous 24-hour broadcast.

The Deputy Minister of Youth, Fernando Lagares, stated that the personal desire of the young people is to reach 500 hours, a goal that seeks to set a record that is more difficult to surpass.

To achieve this, Lagares assured that participants have extensive support, which includes medical and psychological assistance, masseurs, and accompaniment during their rest periods, thus guaranteeing the necessary conditions to continue with this challenge.

“Their desire is to reach 500 hours so that this record is not easy to break. We as an administration are giving them incredible support. We are providing medical and psychological support, uh, with each one of them who goes out, we accompany them with their masseur, rest,” detailed the Deputy Minister of Youth, Fernando Lagares.

He also explained that with this initiative they also seek to carry a message of motivation for new generations, highlighting the importance of fostering the habit of reading as a tool for learning, training, and personal growth for young people.

The closing of the “Youth Out Loud” marathon is scheduled to end this Sunday, when the 480 hours of continuous reading are completed. With 430 hours reached, 50 hours remain to reach the 480 hours, so the initiative is entering its decisive stage.
