López, Gieringer, and Reyes win at American Rosa Pickleball tournament

Santo Domingo.- Sofía López in the Margarita category, Christina Gieringer in Lily and Nashaly Reyes Gómez, in Orchids, were the winners in the first American Rosa Pickleball women’s tournament, organized by the Dominican Federation, under the coordination of Mirtha Marchena and Michelle Guillón. The event took place at the courts of Pickleball Arena of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center and was praised by the president of Fedopickleball, licenciado Elvys Duarte, “as a demonstration of the drive and how the discipline is gaining space in the Dominican Republic”. The second and third places in Margarita were Nathalie Duarte, where beginners participated, while Yannel Dickson; in the intermediate, Lily category, followed in the order Orania Rodríguez and Antonia Ticona; second and third place went to Crisly Páez and Keilyn Domínguez in Orchids, Advanced category.

Duarte said he was very pleased with the level of organization and participation of almost 50 female athletes in this first tournament, which shows the great impact that this new sport continues to have in the country. During the awards ceremony, Duarte pointed out that in the organization “we have the presence of the Dominican athlete Lauren Hidalgo Smith”, who gave a clinic to local athletes.

“Fueron de mucho provecho las recomendaciones de Smith, quien ha tenido grandes éxitos en el desarrollo de su carrera como atleta, ranqueada entre las 30 mejores jugadoras del mundo de Pickleball”,

afirmó Duarte.
He highlighted the event, noting that it allowed for the identification of new talents, “who will very soon demand spaces in the national teams, in the different categories.” Duarte was emphatic in pointing out that little by little players are adopting Pickleball as their favorite discipline, for the opportunity to share and compete, in an environment of harmony and fraternity.
