New Jersey Dominates Volleyball and Leads at the Juan Pablo Duarte Games in New York

New York. – The representation of New Jersey took center stage in the volleyball of the Juan Pablo Duarte Games 2025, by winning three gold medals in the competitions held in New York City, an event inaugurated on August 15th by the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, with the participation of more than 2,300 athletes.

The Polanco Academy of Union City, led by the experienced coach José Polanco, was largely responsible for the golden harvest. The team defeated Manhattan 2-0 in the intermediate women’s division; El Bronx 2-1 in the 17-18 year old women’s category, and defeated Brooklyn 2-0 in the men’s division. An impeccable day that ratified the quality of Dominican athletes residing in the “Garden State.” The only gold medal that escaped the New Jersey teams was in the girls’ youth category, where they succumbed 2-0 to The Bronx. In table tennis, the champion was Wilson Reynoso, who defeated 3-0 María Borja in the final. The bronze was shared between Luis Burgos and Luis Taveras. In the discipline of billiards, Ariel López won the gold medal after defeating Deury Rodríguez in the final. Before that decisive match, López left John Francisco and Alex Guerrero behind, who finished in third and fourth position, respectively.

The Vice Minister of Sports, Kennedy Vargas, led the awards ceremony and highlighted the positive impact of the Juan Pablo Duarte Games on the Dominican diaspora. The act was also attended by Roberto Rojas, general director of the Games; Evaristo Madrigal, president of the Dominican Sports Union in New York; Pedro Pablo Pérez, technical director; and Berny Gill, president of the Dominican Table Tennis Association in the state of New York.
