New York (EFE).- The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (Usopc) will prohibit transgender women from competing in women’s Olympic sports, a measure that follows the executive order signed in February by the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
The New York Times reported this Tuesday that the USOPC changed its “Athlete Safety Policy” this Monday, a modification that the organization acknowledged making this Tuesday when questioned by the newspaper.
“The Usopc is committed to protecting opportunities for athletes participating in the sport,” it now establishes its regulations.
“The USOPC will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders with oversight responsibilities, such as the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee, and national federations, to ensure that women have a fair and safe competitive environment in accordance with Executive Order 14201 and the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act,” he adds.
There is no explicit reference to trans women in that section, but the executive order mentioned by the U.S. Olympic Committee is the one signed by Trump in February to ban them from competing in women’s sports.
