National: July 9th anniversaries
- 1809: With the surrender of the San Gerónimo Castle, the Puerta del Conde bastion, and other strongholds to the Creole leaders headed by Juan Sánchez Ramírez, the French abandon Santo Domingo and Spanish rule is re-established over the eastern part of the island. This period is known as España Boba (Foolish Spain).
- 1822: The young Vicente Celestino Duarte y Diez –brother of the Father of the Nation, Juan Pablo Duarte– marries Miss María Trinidad Villeta y Ponce de León in Santo Domingo.
- 1843: Aware that the independence movement had suffered delays due to the imminent arrival of General Charles Rivier, who intended to arrest its main leaders, Juan Pablo Duarte takes refuge in the house of José Ginebra, located in La Atarazana.
- 1844: Juan Pablo Duarte is received in Puerto Plata with expressions of support for the independence movement initiated in Santo Domingo, which had proclaimed him President of the Republic.
- 1856: By decree 435, Manuel de Regla Mota appoints General Lorenzo Santamaría as Secretary of War and Navy and Miguel Lavastida y Fernández as head of the Foreign Relations office.
- 1865: General José de la Gándara y Navarro imprisons a group of distinguished Dominican men and women, taking them as hostages aboard the steamship Vasco Núñez de Balboa upon leaving Santo Domingo, as a guarantee for the Spanish prisoners captured by the restoration troops.
- 1959: The Dominican ambassador to Ecuador, Homero Hernández Almánzar, resigns from his post in a letter addressed to President Héctor Trujillo, in protest against the massacre of the expeditionaries of Constanza, Maimón, and Estero Hondo.
- 1961: About 300 university students meet in Santo Domingo to demand autonomy for the University of Santo Domingo, this being the first organized activity in pursuit of that objective.
