Honduras. An armed attack interrupted the closing of the patron saint fair in La Campa, Lempira, on Wednesday night. Unknown subjects murdered a merchant who was selling natural juices a few meters from the stage where a concert was taking place. The crime occurred in front of his family and dozens of attendees.
The victim’s name was Eddy Hernández Rodríguez, 39 years old. According to witnesses, the man was attending his sales stand near the musical event when, around 11:00 p.m., two individuals approached and fired repeatedly. The attack caused panic among those present, who ran for safety.

National Police agents arrived minutes later to cordon off the area and prevent the alteration of evidence. The officers began the initial investigations and gathered information from potential witnesses. So far, the authorities have not reported any arrests related to the case.
Forensic Medicine personnel carried out the body removal and transferred the body to the morgue for the corresponding autopsy. The preliminary report indicates that the victim was originally from Santa Cruz, Lempira, and resided in the community of Nueva Esperanza, in the same municipality where the crime occurred.
Authorities are investigating the motive for the murder. They are not ruling out any hypotheses. The community of La Campa regrets what happened, as the patron saint’s fair is one of the most important celebrations in the municipality and brings together entire families.
This new act of violence in Lempira reignites concern for security at public events. Meanwhile, family members and neighbors demand justice and call for the identification and capture of those responsible for the crime.
