Santiago.-An alleged criminal was arrested by agents of the National Police after allegedly assaulting two women in the monumental area of Santiago, in an event that generated a large police deployment and kept residents and passersby in the area on alert for more than an hour.
According to preliminary information, the individual allegedly stripped the victims of a wallet and several gold chains before fleeing on foot through the vicinity of the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration.
After receiving the report, police officers activated a search and tracking operation that lasted for more than an hour, covering various points in the sector in an attempt to locate the suspect.

Investigations indicate that the man took refuge in a closed commercial establishment, where he was finally located and arrested by the uniformed officers. Subsequently, he was transferred under police custody for the corresponding procedures.
The incident caught the attention of citizens who were in the monumental area, one of the areas with the highest flow of visitors in Santiago, due to the constant presence of police units and the movement generated by the pursuit.
Regarding the criminal act, the authorities have not revealed the identity of the detainee nor have they confirmed if the stolen items were recovered. The National Police reported that the case remains under investigation to establish all the details of the incident and determine possible additional responsibilities.
