Citizens demand protection and prevention against the deaths of women at the hands of their partners

Santo Domingo.- The beginning of the year has been marked by a series of deaths of women at the hands of their partners, a situation that has generated alarm and reflection among different sectors of society. During a tour, citizens expressed their concern about the persistence of gender-based violence and the urgency of adopting effective measures to prevent it. “It’s a horrible tragedy… the authorities must take care of us more”, stated a young woman who identified herself as Anyelina. Some consider that this type of event responds to a crisis of values and a lack of spiritual guidance, pointing out the need to strengthen moral formation and respect within the family nucleus.

Others understand that the problem requires more structural answers, with greater State intervention through awareness campaigns that promote peaceful coexistence, emotional education, and the rejection of violence.

“It’s an issue that has to be a campaign, not just for one day… We were born from a woman. Thank God I have never had to resort to violence, I was married for 25 years, it didn’t suit me, I got divorced and we are still friends, I didn’t give birth to women to kill them,” Rafael emphasized.

The population agrees that violence against women should not be normalized and that addressing this phenomenon requires a joint effort between the authorities, communities, and society in general, with the aim of preventing more lives from being lost due to domestic violence.
