San Cristóbal.– The Second Chamber of the Criminal Court of San Cristóbal left the appeal filed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office against the decision that granted the benefit of semi-liberty to former ambassador Donni Santana, sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexual abuse of a minor, in a state of judgment.

After hearing the arguments from the parties during the hearing held this Thursday, the court announced that it will release its decision on August 28.

With this appeal, the Public Prosecutor’s Office seeks to have the measure that allowed Santana’s release from the Najayo Men’s Correction and Rehabilitation Center revoked and for his re-entry to be ordered to serve the remainder of the sentence that was imposed on him.

The case has generated widespread public interest because the former official obtained the benefit of semi-freedom after serving nearly seven years in prison, despite the 20-year sentence handed down against him for sexual abuse of a minor.

The court will decide on August 28 whether to maintain the prison benefit or to grant the Public Prosecutor’s request for Donni Santana to return to the penitentiary center to complete the remainder of his sentence.
