Defender of the author of the Lesbian Anthem claims “it was a poem, not an anthem” and requests pure and simple freedom

Santo Domingo. – The lawyer Wander Matos, defender of the writer Alicia Anabel Santos Díaz, identified as the author of the so-called “Lesbian National Anthem”, offered statements prior to the knowledge of the coercive measure on the text that has generated controversy in different sectors of Dominican society. Matos maintained that the writing was not conceived as an anthem nor does it intend to replace the Dominican National Anthem, but rather it is a poem that is part of a collection of poems of an artistic nature. According to the record, Santos Díaz is investigated for the violation of articles 37 and 39 of Law 210-19, which regulates the use and respect of national symbols. The process also involves Yoseli Castillo Fuertes, who is listed as a co-defendant in the case. The reading of the coercion measure related to the case will be carried out in the Peace Court of the National District.
