New York.- FBI reinforced security operations in New York ahead of the FIFA World Cup FIFA and the events for the 250th anniversary of the United States, events that will attract thousands of visitors during the summer.
U.S. authorities reported that the goal is to ensure the safety of residents and tourists through a broad deployment coordinated among local, state, and federal agencies.
FBI Special Agent Amit Kachhia-Patel assured that security is the top priority and explained that the agency conducts drills and training to respond to different emergency scenarios.
Among the main concerns are possible attacks by lone actors, cyber threats, international terrorism, and the misuse of drones during mass events.
The city will also host high-attendance activities such as the traditional Times Square celebration and the Sail 250 regatta, which will require special operations due to the large concentration of people and international vessels.
The FBI indicated that there are currently no credible threats against New York related to these events, although it asked the population to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
