Public Ministry maintains that Antonio Espaillat and Maribel Espaillat acted negligently and attempted to cover up evidence after the collapse of the Jet Set roof.

Santo Domingo. – The Public Ministry has presented to the Jurisdiction of Permanent Attention Services of the National District a request for a coercive measure and declaration of a complex case against Antonio Espaillat López and Maribel Espaillat de Veras, identified as directly responsible for the tragedy that occurred at the Jet Set entertainment center, where 235 people died and more than 180 were injured.

According to the file, one of the most alarming elements of the case is that after the collapse of the roof, the accused allegedly tried to prevent critical information about the conditions of the place from being disclosed. In a conversation included in the file, Maribel Espaillat warned an employee that revealing details about the structural state of the building “could get Antonio Espaillat 20 years in prison“.

The Public Ministry considers this action as part of a pattern of intentional concealment, which demonstrates prior knowledge of the risks and the seriousness of the decisions made.

The document indicates that the local administrators were aware of the roof’s damage and received visual reports confirming its deterioration. Despite this, they chose to carry out improvised repairs, such as placing tarpaulins to collect water and placing heavy equipment on the roof, without professional supervision or a license, which worsened the infrastructure’s conditions.

For the authorities, these actions reflect a reckless imprudence and a clear intention to avoid criminal consequences, which reinforces the request for pre-trial detention and the need to declare the process as complex.
