Santo Domingo.- Between pain and indignation, Ángela Isabel Delgado Piña defended the memory of her son Elvin Sadel Urbáez Delgado, 19 years old, who was shot to death on the night of December 26 while sharing with a group of friends in a space near his residence, in the La Caleta sector.
“He was a kind, friendly, messy boy like any young person his age and very loving,” the mother expressed when describing her son, whom she defines as a young man dedicated to sports and far from criminal activities.
“My son was an athlete, not a gang member,” Angela stated through tears.
Elvin Sadel’s main hobby was basketball, a discipline in which he excelled from an early age. According to his mother and neighbors, he was considered “one of the best in the neighborhood” and participated in his last tournament at the beginning of December. Coaches from different teams even came to watch him play, and he was recognized on several occasions as Most Valuable Player (MVP) in local tournaments.
Ángela Delgado reported that the alleged perpetrators of the act grew up with her son and used to visit her house. “They grew up together, they came here to eat, but some time ago they distanced themselves because they were Pharisees,” she indicated, without offering further details.
The mother also rejected the statements of the spokesperson for the National Police, Diego Pesqueira, who linked the crime to “old personal grudges between groups in the area, including one called ‘Los Macaos’”. Delgado described these statements as unfounded and assured that the authorities have not acted with due diligence.
“They don’t want to do their job. They haven’t arrested anyone”, he denounced.
Elvin Sadel left his daughter Britney, who was barely a year old, orphaned, and she is still waiting for her father to return home.
Likewise, Ángela Delgado requested justice not only for her deceased son, but also for Erwin Sadel, who remains hospitalized in a health center due to the same violent act.
“I want the facts to be clarified and for my children’s name not to be tarnished. My son is not a bandit and I want justice as a mother,” she concluded.
Authorities reported that the case is still under investigation.
