Santo Domingo. The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) urged the Government this Monday to declare a state of emergency in the public health system, considering that hospitals are going through a deep crisis that affects the quality of care offered to the population.
The political organization maintained that numerous hospital centers present deficiencies in key areas, including the availability of medicines and medical supplies, the lack of healthcare personnel, and infrastructure problems that, in their view, compromise the functioning of the services.
As an example, the PLD pointed to the situation at the Salvador B. Gautier Hospital, where it asserted that only half of the operating rooms are operational and that the hemodynamics unit remains out of service. Likewise, it reported issues with the water supply and limitations in meeting patient demand.

The opposition party also questioned the intention to relocate the health center’s operations without, as it claims, a clear plan that guarantees the continuity of medical services during the process.

In that context, the organization called on the authorities to adopt urgent measures to strengthen the national hospital network, improve working conditions for health personnel, and ensure the supply of essential equipment, medicines, and supplies.
The PLD maintained that the situation requires an immediate response to prevent further deterioration of the system and to guarantee timely, quality care for citizens who depend on public hospitals.
