The Superintendent of Banks, Alejandro Fernández W., supported the actions of Banco BHD in the face of the judicial prosecution of the case of irregular accreditations attributed to a former employee of the entity.
He considered that the institution acted correctly in communicating the event, activating the corresponding processes, and handing the case over to the competent authorities. The superintendent refrained from commenting on the merits of the case as it is under judicial review.
Fernández stated that the Superintendency of Banks was informed in a timely manner about the incident and that the supervisory body followed up on the situation in accordance with its usual procedures. He also indicated that the event never compromised the stability of the entity nor posed a risk to depositors and financial users.
In his opinion, in situations of this nature, what is relevant is that they are investigated and that there are consequences, motivating entities to maintain a clear stance against any misconduct. This is because judicial actions are an important signal with a deterrent effect on the entire system to prevent replication.
The statements were made during the release of the re-editions of volumes II, III, and IV of the Bibliófilos-BHD Collection, an initiative developed in conjunction with the Dominican Society of Bibliophiles. The works presented were La Concepción de La Vega, by Mario Concepción; Dramas Dominicanos, by Casimiro N. de Moya, and La Ciudad de Santo Domingo, by Luis Alemar.

In the act, the president of the BHD Financial Center, Luis Molina Achécar, also intervened, reiterating the Bank’s institutional commitment, present since its foundation, to a culture based on ethics, responsibility, and good governance. In accordance with these principles, once the irregular accreditations were identified, the Bank acted with transparency and responsibility, carried out the corresponding procedures, informed the competent authorities, and proceeded to judicialize.
The bank executive explained that the amount involved exceeds RD$ 200 million and that the sum was absorbed accounting by the entity. According to him, that decision did not materially affect the Bank’s financial results or its savers.
The event brought together representatives from the financial, academic and cultural sectors, and served as a stage to reaffirm Banco BHD’s support for the preservation of historical memory and Dominican culture.
