The Minute of Water Festival 2025 in the Dominican Republic is dedicated to Santiago.

Santiago.– The Santiago City Council and the Fundación Municipios al Día reported that the International Short Film Festival Minute of Water (FestMinutoAgua) will be dedicated to this municipality, due to its relevance in the country’s water system and in recognition of the actions promoted in favor of the natural resource.

Deputy Mayor Mariana Moreno, representing the Mayor’s Office, enthusiastically welcomed the dedication and highlighted: “As part of the recovery plan for the Yaque del Norte River, we invested more than 14 million pesos in a pilot environmental education program led by 150 women“. This initiative, she affirmed, guarantees a positive impact on the quality of life of the people of Santiago.

Moreno announced a special exclusive prize for participants from Santiago de los Caballeros and invited young people to consult the contest rules to add their creative contributions. The contest, which opened its call on March 22, 2025, and will close on August 31 of the same year, celebrates a decade promoting awareness about water care and water resources in the face of climate change and will be revealed in a special gala on October 15, 2025. Augusto Valdivia, festival producer and president of the Fundación Municipios al Día, highlighted the mayor’s investments in the rescue of the Yaque del Norte basin and the sanitation of ravines as key reasons to dedicate this edition to Santiago.

The FestMinutoAgua recognizes Spain for its cooperation in water and sanitation through institutions such as INAPA, INDRHI, and the Ministry of Environment, also contributing to Dominican food sovereignty.

The application for short films will be open until August 31st and is supported by the Dominican National Commission for UNESCO, Adocine, Adopresci, Adompretur, the Dominican Broadcasters Circle (CLD), FEDA, Procine, Mira Cinema and Valdivia Publicidad, among others.
