Santo Domingo. – The communicator and social activist El Pío RD, member of the Somos Pueblo movement, announced that he will attend the judicial hearing scheduled for this Monday, January 12, at 9:00 a.m., at the Palace of Justice, where a court will hear the case against Antonio and Maribel Espaillat, owners of the Jet Set entertainment center. The Public Prosecutor’s Office (Pío) RD reported that in said hearing, Judge Raimundo Mejía will decide whether the case is sent to trial on the merits or whether a dismissal is issued, which could lead to the acquittal of the defendants. The communicator expressed his concern about the possibility that the accused will be declared innocent, nine months after the tragedy that occurred in the establishment. As explained, the collapse of the Jet Set’s roof caused the death of hundreds of people, a fact that he attributes to alleged negligence and structural overload. In that sense, he maintained that the victims and their families deserve justice and that the case should not go unpunished.

“We want justice for all those people who lost their lives. This case cannot be closed without determining responsibility,” said El Pío RD in a message posted on social media, while reiterating his call to the citizenry to remain vigilant of the judicial process. The activist assured that his presence at the hearing responds to the commitment of Somos Pueblo with the defense of citizen rights, judicial transparency and the accompaniment of families affected by the tragedy.
