Argentina.- A 79-year-old retiree was the victim of a violent assault while sleeping in his home in the town of Lisandro Olmos, in La Plata. The event occurred during the early hours of Tuesday when three criminals broke into the house after forcing the back door.

The attackers surprised the man, tied his hands and feet, covered his face and began searching the rooms for money. Faced with the victim’s refusal to hand over cash, they hit him in the face to force him to give them money. Finally, they took a sum of money in pesos, which the retiree could not specify, in addition to one thousand fake dollars that he had as a result of a previous scam, as well as antique ornaments and other personal objects of sentimental value.

The man stated that he did not see any firearms during the event and that he could recognize one of the attackers. There were no security cameras in the house, so the authorities are working to identify potential witnesses and review images from private cameras in the area. The event was classified as robbery and the case is under the intervention of the Functional Instruction Unit No. 9 and the Guarantee Court No. 3. Relatives of the retiree stated that they are going through a “moment of shock and deep anguish” after the attack on a vulnerable person.
