Abinader promotes cooperative for hairdressers; meets with 1,000 of them

Santo Domingo,.- President Luis Abinader led a national meeting this Tuesday with 1,000 hairdressers and barbers from all over the country and recalled that his Government has promoted the creation of a cooperative, with the aim of serving as a financing, savings and support tool for the present and future of the workers in the sector. He indicated that this initiative seeks to strengthen the economic stability of hairdressers and open up greater growth opportunities for them, according to a note from the Presidency.

Furthermore, he instructed the relevant officials to meet as soon as possible to create a chapter and a special line aimed exclusively at hairdressers, as well as to evaluate alternatives that allow the creation of a club that responds to the needs of the sector, especially in the National District. The meeting allowed the 1,000 hairdressers to offer 5,000 free haircuts to community members, consolidating a high-impact social action and reaffirming the Government’s commitment to inclusion, the dignification of work, and support for emerging productive sectors. During the activity held at the Nuevo Domingo Savio Sports Center, the president shared closely with these professionals as a gesture of support and closeness to the sector, received a haircut by Billy Núñez, who has been practicing the profession for more than five decades, highlighting the value of the trade and its direct link with the community. Abinader expressed his closeness, solidarity, and commitment to the country’s hairdressers, whom he defined as a group of high social impact, the information added. He highlighted that few professions influence people’s daily lives as much as hairdressing, due to its direct contact with communities and its contribution to the dignity, self-esteem, and well-being of thousands of Dominican families. The ruler highlighted the international recognition of Dominican talent, noting that in different countries such as the United States, Switzerland, Chile, and Argentina, there are associations of Dominican hairdressers, which demonstrates the quality and prestige of their hardworking hands.
