Santo Domingo.- In a day organized by the National Office of Support for Penitentiary Reform (ONAPREP), maestro Niní Cáffaro, doña Zaida Lovatón and Freddy Ginebra, along with representatives of public and private institutions, held the first book donation day for those deprived of liberty, held this Friday at the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library (BNPHU).
The initiative, in coordination with the National Library, aimed to strengthen the education and social reintegration programs carried out in the country’s penitentiary centers.
This day is part of an inter-institutional agreement signed between the director of the National Library, Rafael Peralta Romero, and the director of ONAPREP, Roberto Santana, with the purpose of promoting joint actions that stimulate education, culture, and the social reintegration of people deprived of their liberty.
During the meeting, significant contributions of academic and cultural texts were received, which will be incorporated into the libraries of the penitentiary facilities, expanding the opportunities for training and personal development for those serving sentences.
With this action, the beginning of a national movement is marked, which promotes education as a fundamental tool for the transformation and social reintegration of those deprived of liberty, integrating the collaboration of personalities, institutions, and citizens.
