Santo Domingo, R.D. – The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported this Thursday that it has expanded the alert levels in several provinces of the country, due to the effects of an active tropical wave combined with a trough at different levels of the troposphere, which maintain atmospheric conditions loaded with humidity and instability.
According to the entity’s bulletin, moderate to heavy showers are expected, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts, mainly during the afternoon and evening, in provinces such as La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, San Pedro de Macorís, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Espaillat, Puerto Plata, Monte Plata, Peravia, San Cristóbal, Greater Santo Domingo, as well as in Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Santiago, San Juan, Elías Piña, Independencia and Barahona.
The emergency agency maintains 9 provinces on yellow alert: Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, María Trinidad Sánchez, San Pedro de Macorís, La Altagracia, El Seibo, La Romana, Hato Mayor and Samaná.
While 7 provinces are on green alert: Barahona, San Juan, Azua, Monte Plata, Peravia, San Cristóbal and San José de Ocoa.
The COE warned of possible rises in rivers, streams, and ravines, as well as flash and urban floods. In addition, it alerted operators of small and medium-sized vessels on the Atlantic coast, from Cabo Engaño (La Altagracia) to Cabo Francés Viejo (María Trinidad Sánchez), to navigate with caution and not venture out to sea due to the deterioration of the waves.

The director of the COE, Major General (r) Juan Manuel Méndez García, urged the population to follow the recommendations of civil protection agencies and remain attentive to official warnings.
