Santo Domingo.- Senator Dagoberto Rodríguez rejected this Monday the statements of former president Danilo Medina, who denounced an alleged collapse of the High Cost Medication Program. According to the legislator, the reality is totally different: the investment destined to this item “has tripled” in recent years.

“That’s not true, that’s a lie from Danilo, because quite the opposite, the investment has tripled,” Rodríguez stated when approached by the press at the National Congress.

The senator acknowledged that the number of beneficiary patients has increased significantly, but maintained that this situation must be addressed with better planning in the bidding processes to avoid delays in the delivery of the drugs. The statements arise in response to what was expressed by the former president and president of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), who yesterday called the abandonment of the Luis Abinader government’s medication program, considered essential for the most vulnerable families, “criminal.” During a PLD provincial assembly in Hato Mayor, Medina recalled that this program was not created “at random” or in an improvised manner, but as a response to the need of hundreds of Dominicans facing catastrophic diseases such as cancer, stroke, diabetes and arteriosclerosis, whose treatments would be impossible to afford without state support.
