Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Health reported this Thursday that in the current epidemiological week number 41, three positive cases of dengue were confirmed, with a total of 239 confirmed cases of this disease to date since the beginning of this year and an incidence rate of 2.82 per one hundred thousand inhabitants, the institution reported.
Last year, in the same period, a total of 1,243 cases of dengue were confirmed and the incidence was at 14.49, which represents “an 81 percent reduction in the disease”, the ministry indicated in a statement.You may be interested in: Low incidence of dengue and malaria in the country
On the other hand, there is no record of positive cases of leptospirosis this week, while the number of confirmed cases to date this year stands at 83.
The Ministry of Health called on the population to “maintain the necessary care to avoid the disease, such as: avoiding contact with dirty water, using adequate protection such as boots and gloves if necessary, avoiding contact with animal urine, controlling the presence of rodents and mainly maintaining good hygiene in the home among other spaces”. Furthermore, in the current epidemiological week, Public Health indicated that there were no positive cases of cholera, while in the same week of the previous year, 15 positive cases were confirmed. Currently, the incidence of cholera is 0.00, whereas last year it was 0.17 on this date. On the other hand, in this epidemiological week number 41, three maternal deaths were reported; the accumulated total to date this year is 129 deaths, while 143 deaths occurred by the same date last year. “There are 40 infant deaths and a cumulative total of 1,416 deaths this year,” added the ministry, which noted that this indicator reflects a “decrease of 21 percent compared to the previous year, when 1,790 deaths were reported” on the same date.
