Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Labor presented this Wednesday the Child Labor Risk Identification Model (MIRTI), a technical tool that will allow for the identification of the territories and populations most vulnerable to this phenomenon, with the aim of strengthening prevention actions and advancing towards its eradication in the country.
The initiative was announced during an event led by the First Lady of the Republic, Raquel Arbaje, and the Minister of Labor, Eddy Olivares Ortega, within the framework of the commemoration of the World Day Against Child Labor.
During the activity, the authorities highlighted that the new model will contribute to improving decision-making through the analysis of social, economic, and statistical variables that allow for the early detection of areas with the highest risk of child labor.
The MIRTI was developed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and has been implemented in several countries in the region as a tool to guide data-based prevention policies.
Among the main benefits of MIRTI are the identification of vulnerable areas, the strengthening of inter-institutional strategies, and the contribution to the fulfillment of Target 8.7 of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, which seeks to eliminate all forms of child labor.

During the event, the “Red Card against Child Labor” campaign was also launched, promoted by the Ministry of Labor and presented by Pilar Rodríguez, coordinator of the Regional Initiative for Latin America and the Caribbean, together with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Dominican Republic, Hichame Dahane, as a symbol of rejection of any form of child labor exploitation.

The implementation of this model adds to successful experiences developed in countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, and Peru, where it has allowed for the identification of high-risk territories and the guidance of government actions to reduce the incidence of child labor.
The event was held in the Dr. Eduardo Latorre Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX), with the participation of representatives from international organizations, government authorities, and members of the diplomatic corps.
