Santo Domingo,.- Hundreds of people marched this Sunday through several streets of the community of Cabirmota, in La Vega, convened by the Antigua Orden Dominicana, in condemnation of the murder of a cattle rancher at the hands of a Haitian last Wednesday.
‘We don’t want Haitians here, let them go to Haiti,’ ‘if they don’t leave, we’ll kick them out,’ shouted the protesters with banners in their hands displaying the photo of the victim Jhovanny Ulerio, 54 years old, who, according to the National Police, was murdered on his own farm by the Haitian Timen Sea, who remains at large.

“This can’t go on, in what has been this year, more than 53 Dominicans have fallen at the hands of Haitians. Here they are being given ten days for the authorities to remove them, because if they don’t, we, the people, will remove them”, expressed to the media the leader of the Ancient Order, Ángelo Vásquez. Vásquez, with his characteristic black attire, like other members of the organization, stated that this Sunday they were in La Vega demanding justice for the death of the rancher, and recalled that on February 27 they mobilized in Higüey, La Altagracia, and that they will soon do so in Moca, (the neighborhood in Santo Domingo Este of) Los Frailes and in the province of San Juan.“We are going to tour the country, this is over. Haitians have the right to fight to rebuild their country, but Dominicans have the right to live in peace (…) to the authorities to act before the people do, this is the moment”, he added.
Cabirmota community members stated that they will continue their fight until they remove all Haitians from the place, while warning that those Dominicans who rent homes to illegal citizens “must face the consequences”. Last Wednesday, hours after Ulerio’s death, the National Police reported that the murderer had been hired by the agricultural entrepreneur just 15 days before the crime. The institution assured that the Haitian Timen Sea used a knife to slit the cattleman’s throat and that after committing the crime, he threw the body into a septic tank. He escaped from the scene with his sentimental partner, also Haitian, on a motorcycle owned by the victim.
