Santo Domingo.– The communicator and businessman Santiago Matías stated that agents of the National Police and members of the Armed Forces have the right to vote in the elections of the Dominican Republic, just like the other employees who work for the Dominican State.
Matías maintained that, if it is considered that there is a conflict of interest due to belonging to government institutions, then the same criterion should be applied to all public employees and they should be prohibited from exercising their right to vote.

“National Police agents and military personnel have the right to vote in elections in the Dominican Republic, just like other employees who work for the Dominican State. If that were not the case, it should be prohibited for everyone who works in government agencies to exercise their right to vote due to an alleged conflict of interest,” he expressed.
Santiago Matías’ statements spark debate regarding the electoral participation of members of the military and police forces, a topic that has been a subject of discussion in different sectors of Dominican society.
