Woman reports police abuse and use of pepper spray in the Luperón district

Ensanche Luperón.- A young woman reported that she was allegedly attacked with pepper spray by a National Police officer during an incident that occurred in Ensanche Luperón, in the National District.

The complainant, identified as Pamela Frías Vargas, stated that the incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. last Sunday, when she went to claim the keys to her brother’s vehicle, who had been previously detained by police officers.

According to his account, in the middle of an argument with the acting officer, the latter allegedly sprayed pepper spray in his face, causing him physical discomfort and creating a tense situation at the scene.

Frías Vargas claimed to have audiovisual evidence of the incident and released a video showing part of what happened. The material has circulated on social media, where it has generated diverse reactions among citizens.

The young woman also indicated that a local merchant told her she had experienced a similar situation, so she requested that the authorities conduct a thorough investigation to clarify the facts and determine the corresponding responsibilities.

For its part, the National Police reported that the case is under investigation with the purpose of establishing the circumstances in which the incident occurred and verifying if there was any irregular action on the part of the agents involved.

The authorities stated that, once the investigative process is concluded, the appropriate measures will be taken in accordance with the results obtained.
