A training plane of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed on Monday, shortly after taking off, into the campus of a school in the capital, Dhaka, killing at least 18 people, including the pilot, and injuring another 164, according to the Army.
The F-7 BGI aircraft, manufactured in China, crashed in the afternoon against the campus of Milestone School and College, in the Uttara neighborhood while the students were attending class, according to the Army and a fire officer.
Military officials said the plane took off at 1:06 pm local time and crashed shortly after, immediately catching fire. The cause was not immediately clear.
This is the deadliest air accident so far in the capital of Bangladesh.
