New York.- A diving team specializing in searching for missing persons worldwide found human remains inside a vehicle submerged on a Long Island beach (New York).

It is believed that they could belong to a sixty-year-old who went missing fifteen years ago. Researchers point to it being Robert Long, originally from Long Island itself, who disappeared in December 2010 at the age of 62 while heading to a local liquor store in a Chrysler PT Cruiser like the one discovered, local media reported in the last few hours. “It’s obviously a great relief when the vehicle being sought is identified (…) It’s satisfying to know that we can help the family, however difficult the answers may be,” declared Dan Pritchard – who teams up with his colleague Bill McIntosh searching for missing persons around the planet – to 1010 WINS radio. To find the submerged vehicle in the Cedar Beach area (Suffolk County, New York), the couple embarked for hours on kayaks equipped with side-scan sonars that allowed them to inspect the water.

After confirming the presence of human remains, they informed the Suffolk County police, who are now immersed in an investigation while a coroner tries to determine the identity of the body and the cause of death through an autopsy, the authorities reported. “There is a missing person and we suspect it’s this driver (…) We notified the family (of Robert Long) out of courtesy, but we have not yet made any definitive identification,” Lieutenant Kevin Beyrer stated on Tuesday. The pair of researchers, who have recently recovered three vehicles submerged in nearby waterways, intend to continue touring the East Coast of the U.S. in the coming months with the aim of finding the remains of another fifty missing persons.
