Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said Sunday that it captured a U.S. Remus 600 unmanned underwater vehicle operating in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iranian state media, the capture was carried out during what the Revolutionary Guard described as a coordinated intelligence and electronic warfare operation. Iranian authorities alleged that the vehicle was conducting espionage activities in the strategic waterway. The claim has not been independently verified by U.S. authorities. (The Economic Times)
Iranian officials said the Remus 600 is now in the hands of military specialists who will attempt to recover information from the vehicle.
The reported seizure would be the second U.S. underwater drone Iran says it has captured in the Strait of Hormuz this month. Earlier, the Revolutionary Guard announced the capture of another autonomous underwater vehicle, identified as a Dive-LD developed by U.S. defense company Anduril Industries.
The latest claim comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States in and around the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway that has been at the center of the ongoing conflict. (The Economic Times)
