A man accused of carjacking a woman after escaping from Palmetto Hospital in Hialeah was taken into custody Thursday after a police chase that ended in a crash in northwest Miami-Dade.
Authorities identified the suspect as 35-year-old Jordan Eugene Brown. Police said Brown had been taken to the hospital under a Baker Act order for a mental health evaluation but fled shortly after arriving.
According to Hialeah Police, Brown approached a woman in the hospital parking lot as she was getting out of her vehicle and forced his way inside. As he fled in the stolen vehicle, he struck another car.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputies, police officers and Florida Highway Patrol troopers later pursued a speeding black Nissan Sentra through northwest Miami-Dade. Multiple attempts to stop the vehicle using PIT maneuvers caused damage, but the driver continued fleeing and at times drove into oncoming traffic.
An FHP trooper eventually managed to spin the vehicle, causing it to crash near Northwest 17th Avenue and 79th Street. Brown was taken into custody.

No injuries were reported in the carjacking. Hialeah Police said they are investigating the carjacking and hit-and-run, while the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol were involved in the pursuit.
