Washington. – The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said this Monday that Turkey is a threat to NATO and the United States should not sell it F-35 fighter jets, as that would destabilize the balance of power in the Middle East.
In an interview with the Fox News channel, Netanyahu said that the government of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is “infected by the Muslim Brotherhood,” and “openly calls for the annihilation of Israel, occupies half of Cyprus – a NATO member country (sic) – and threatens Greece, another NATO member. And he speaks openly about conquering Jerusalem.”

In this sense, the Prime Minister of Israel was mistaken in his statements when he literally claimed that Cyprus is a member of NATO, to which it does not belong, although it is part of the European Union (EU).
Netanyahu asserted on one of the morning shows most watched by conservative audiences in the United States that, due to its association with the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood movement, which shouts “death to America,” Turkey, a NATO member and strategic partner of the United States, “should not receive F-35s or engines for its fighter jets.”
In the opinion of the Israeli prime minister, that military cooperation “will affect the balance of power in the Middle East, which is ultimately guaranteed by Israeli air superiority and the American military presence” in the region.
Trump will travel tomorrow, Tuesday, to Ankara to participate in the Atlantic Alliance summit and will meet with Erdogan, with whom he maintains a good relationship.
Netanyahu asserted that Turkey is an ally of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas and that it “supports the bad guys,” in reference to Israel’s enemies.
Recently, former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, one of Israel’s leading opposition figures, went so far as to say that Turkey is “the new Iran”.
