Vatican City.- Pope Leo XIV expressed his sorrow this Tuesday for the victims and material damage caused by the earthquake in Colombia and showed his gratitude to all “those who, with generous dedication, are working in the search, rescue, and assistance efforts for the victims.”
The Cardinal Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, sent on behalf of the pontiff a telegram to the Archbishop of Cartagena and President of the Episcopal Conference, Francisco Javier Múnera Correa, in which he assures that Leo XIV is “deeply saddened to learn the painful news of the earthquake that has severely affected several areas of Colombia, causing victims and numerous injuries, as well as serious material damage, including to many churches.”

The Pope “offers suffrages for the eternal rest of the deceased and raises his prayers to the Lord for the speedy recovery of those affected by this tragedy,” the message reads.
Likewise, he asks that he convey his heartfelt condolences “to the families who, in this hour of deep sorrow, mourn the loss of their loved ones” and likewise, “assures his spiritual closeness and expresses his gratitude to all those who, with generous dedication, are working in the search, rescue, and assistance efforts for those affected.”
