The virtual meeting of European leaders with Zelensky begins in Berlin

Berlin.- The first of the virtual meetings between European leaders with the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, began this Wednesday, convened by the German chancellor, Friedrich Merz, and before these representatives meet remotely with the American president, Donald Trump. In this first virtual meeting, in addition to Merz and Zelensky, the leaders of Finland, France, Italy, the United Kingdom and Poland are participating from 12:00 GMT, as well as the president of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Council, António Costa, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. It is planned, after this first meeting in which the Europeans will coordinate their position on the Russo-Ukrainian war, that Merz and Zelensky will have another virtual meeting with Trump, before the head of the German government and the leader of the Ukrainian Executive meet again with the European representatives.

The Federal Chancellery has announced that Merz and Zelensky will give press statements at 14:00 GMT at the end of the meetings, in which the Europeans seek to assert their positions before Trump, who will meet on Friday in Alaska (USA) with the Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
