The White House rejects Elon Musk’s criticism of President Trump’s tax plan

Washington.- The White House rejected on Thursday the criticisms of Elon Musk to President Donald Trump’s fiscal plan while thanking the work done by the businessman at the head of the Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE, in English).

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt stated in a press conference that the Trump Administration thanks Musk for “his service” and rejected that the tax plan will increase the country’s budget deficit.

“We appreciate you boosting DOGE and your work in efforts to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, which will continue,” he added.

Leavitt denied that Musk was right, after the magnate expressed his “disappointment” with Trump’s fiscal plan known as ‘Great and Beautiful Bill’, which was approved by the House of Representatives last week and sent to the US Senate.

Leavitt insisted that, despite what Musk claimed, the plan will save $1.6 trillion for public coffers and noted that “the president is very proud of the ‘Great and beautiful bill’, and wants to see it passed. He wants the Senate to get to work on it and send it to his office as soon as possible.”

The White House spokesperson also did not clarify whether Musk will be replaced at the head of DOGE.

“DOGE’s leaders are each and every member of the president’s cabinet and the president himself, who is fully committed to eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in our Government,” he stated when asked who will replace Musk at the head of the department.

On Tuesday, in an interview with CBS television, Musk stated: “frankly, I was disappointed to see the huge spending bill, which increases the budget deficit, not only does not reduce it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing.”

One day later, on Wednesday, the businessman announced his departure from the Government on his social network X with a message in which he also thanked Trump “for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending”.
