Bronx, New York— Aaron Judge shined again with the bat this Sunday by hitting two home runs and reaching 30 home runs for the season, leading the offense of the New York Yankees in a resounding 12-5 victory over the Oakland Athletics at Yankee Stadium.
With this performance, Judge reached the 30-home run mark in a season for the sixth time in his career and placed himself only two away from the lead in the American League. It was his 44th multi-home run game, after hitting one in the fourth inning against Luis Severino and another in the seventh against Tyler Ferguson, both pitchers from Fresno, California.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. also stood out by driving in four runs, including a home run in the second inning and a bases-clearing triple in the third. Since his return from a right oblique injury, Chisholm is batting .318 with six home runs and 18 RBIs.
Right-hander Marcus Stroman (1-1) earned the win in his return to the rotation since April, allowing only three hits in five innings, including a home run by Willie MacIver. It was his first victory since August of last year.
For his part, Severino (2-9) took the loss in his return to the Bronx, after allowing seven runs (six earned) and five hits, in a performance that was affected by defensive errors. The Dominican has given up 15 runs in two starts against his former team this season.
Cody Bellinger hit a three-run homer to complete New York’s offense, which won the series against Oakland by two games to one, achieving only their second series win in more than two weeks.
Shortstop Anthony Volpe was ejected in the eighth inning after protesting a called strikeout, on a day charged with emotions for the New Yorkers.
