SANTO DOMINGO. – The Dominican Republic Senior Men’s Basketball Team departed this Monday for Zacatecas, Mexico, with the group of 12 players chosen by coach Néstor “Ché” García to compete in the First Qualifying Window towards the 2027 Qatar World Cup. The team will face Mexico this Friday, November 28th at 8:10 p.m. (local time).

The Quisqueyan team will establish its training base in Zacatecas in the days leading up to the commitment to be held at the Marcelino González Gymnasium, where they will seek to start the World Cup journey on the right foot.

The Argentinian coach announced the official list composed of a combination of experience, youth, and physical strength. The selected players are:

Goal: Fourth consecutive World Cup

Dominican Republic has four World Cup appearances: Philippines 1978, Spain 2014, China 2019 and the 2023 edition held in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines. If they qualify for Qatar 2027, it would be the fourth consecutive and the fifth in the country’s history.

Calendar and Group Structure

The game on Friday is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. in Mexico (10:40 p.m. in Santo Domingo).
The second day of this window will be in Dominican territory on Monday, December 1, at the Palacio del Voleibol Ricardo Gioriber Arias, Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. The selection is part of Group A, along with United States, Mexico and Nicaragua, with seven places available for The Americas towards Qatar 2027. In future windows, Dominicans will receive the United States on Friday, July 3, 2026, in the renovated Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto.
